The Cretan cuisine has become internationally acclaimed as a nutritional model, the history of which dates back to the Minoan years. The island has always cultivated olive trees, vineyards and an abundance of fruit trees, herbs and vegetables, a tradition which still exists today where almost every Cretan family own a vegetable garden, have their own olive grove, a lemon and orange tree .
One of the major delights whilst on holiday here is discovering the simple yet delicious Cretan food and wine in a typical taverna or enjoying a raki and meze in a village kafeneion. In the heat of the summer nothing can beat sitting by the sea enjoying freshly caught fish, fried kalamares or sun dried octopus with a dash of tatziki !!
